Anyone that knows me knows that I absolutely live for a good getaway. In my younger years I would often work 2-3 jobs at a time just to save up for my next adventure. What can I say- I've always loved this beautiful planet that we live on. I love to explore. Even though I am blessed to live on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, there is so much to see elsewhere. So many forms of beauty. I really just can't get enough of exploring this planet.
In my recent years, I've been unusually drawn to the tropics. There is a something so endearing about the tropical lifestyle. Lots of rest, sun, swim and solace. Living on the chilly Monterey Peninsula, I admit that the warm water of the tropics allures me the most. I love other places as well, but the tropics are my go-to when I really need a "break."
Here are some of my favorite destinations:
- I absolutely love the South Pacific! This is a wide area but specifically I love Fiji, and Hawaii. My first trip on a plane was to Hawaii just out of high-school. So much flora. Nice people. And lots and lots of coconuts lol. I absolutely fell in love with the place and the way of life. Fiji is another awesome place. Kind of a long flight, but oh so worth it. Fiji kind of reminds me of Hawaii, but less populated. These places will always have a special place in my heart <3
- I am absolutely obsessed with the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. I went on a trip here with my sister back in 2013. Prior to the trip I kept seeing these pictures of these amazing waterholes known as cenotes. I did a little research and discovered that they are located in Mexico. I knew that was a place I wanted to see. Man, I am so happy that I went! There were so many different cenotes. All so amazing and beautiful. Absolute heaven on earth and memories that I will cherish my entire life. I recommend :)
- Another noteworthy location is Southern Africa. All I can say is: wow!!!! Before leaving on this trip, I had not done a lot of research and really did not know what to expect. I went with an open mind and was completely surprised. There is just so much to do and see. I would have to say my favorite part of Africa would have to be the animals. We saw so many rare animals on our trip. We stayed at a couple of different game reserves. It was refreshing to see these creatures in their native habitats and NOT in a zoo. I have mixed feelings about zoos :( Some of the animals I saw were lion, elephant, wart hog, jackal, velvet ant, tortoise, giraffe, hippos, alligators, and others as well. So worth it :)
If you ever find yourself in need of a little get away, a chance to see life with fresh eyes, I recommend that you get out of dodge for a while. The places I listed are great, but there are plenty of great places to see. Get out there!!
